At Last, A Triple Crown Winner
How blessed are we, how blessed should we be? Just a week ago, we might have seen (I know I did), American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown.
First, you must watch the Kentucky Derby, then the Preakness. If the winner of the Derby wins the Preakness, then three weeks later, it’s worth watching the last leg.
Sure enough, a generation has come to pass without seeing this special feat of harness racing.
For many of us, this is something new. There were three Triple Crown Winners in the 1970s, three in five years.
It was Secretariat in 1973, Seattle Slew in 1977, and Affirmed in 1978, the three Triple Crown winners of that decade.
But if you pretty much under the age of 40, you don’t remember it.
Now you have your Triple Crown winner, hopefully one of many, but then again, if a horse wins two-thirds of the leg, Bellmont is never easy to win.
Future years, we will see.
